A new warehouse in Cranbourne West had its concrete floor poured with a curing compound applied by the builder to control moisture loss during initial cure. Standard building practice. We were called in six weeks after the pour — well past the 28-day cure period — to mark the floor. The surface passed our moisture test. We marked it. Within eight weeks, sections showed cohesive failure: the marking was lifting with a thin layer of concrete still attached to the underside of the peeling coating.

The curing compound was still present as a bond-breaking layer in the concrete surface. Our moisture test checks for moisture content — not for curing compound residue. The two are completely different issues. The compound had to be mechanically removed by grinding before any coating could adhere. We ground the entire marked area, reprimed, and remarked at our cost — roughly $4,100 in additional work.
