Electric Vehicle Charging Bay Line Marking
We've marked EV charging bays at shopping centres, office buildings, and council facilities across Australia since electric vehicles became mainstream. Distinctive green markings, universal EV symbols, and proper bay dimensions that make it crystal clear these spaces are for charging vehicles only. No more petrol cars blocking your chargers while EV drivers circle the carpark in frustration.

Why Your EV Charging Bays Need to Stand Out From Every Other Space??
A facilities manager at a shopping centre in Chadstone called us last year with a familiar problem. They'd installed four new EV charging stations at significant cost, but the bays were constantly blocked by petrol and diesel vehicles. Standard white bay lines with a small sign wasn't cutting it. Drivers either didn't notice or didn't care. The EV drivers were lodging complaints, and the centre was getting negative reviews specifically mentioning blocked chargers. We proposed a complete visual overhaul: bright green bay borders, large EV symbols painted in each bay, EV ONLY text stencilling, and green hatching in the approach zones. Completed on a Tuesday night. Within a month, the centre reported that EV charger availability had improved dramatically and complaints had virtually stopped. Turns out, when bays are unmistakably marked for electric vehicles, most drivers respect them.EV charging infrastructure is expensive. The chargers themselves, the electrical work, the ongoing maintenance. But all that investment is wasted if the bays are constantly occupied by vehicles that aren't charging. The solution isn't more signage or security patrols. It's making the EV bays so visually distinctive that parking there by accident becomes almost impossible. Green is now the internationally recognised colour for EV charging infrastructure, and we use a specific shade that matches the emerging Australian standard for EV parking identification.

Compliance Standards
Off-Street Parking Facility Design
AS/NZS 2890.1:2004, the primary standard for carpark design and marking applies to EV charging bays. Specifies minimum bay dimensions, though EV bays typically exceed minimums to accommodate charging equipment access. We ensure your EV bays meet base requirements while providing extra width for practical charging.
Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure
AS/NZS 3000:2018 (Wiring Rules), while primarily an electrical standard, includes requirements for EV charging installations that impact bay marking. Covers clearance zones around charging equipment and cable management areas. Our marking integrates with proper electrical installation requirements.
Traffic Control Pavement Markings
AS 1742.2:2009, covers pavement marking materials and colour specifications. While green for EV bays isn't explicitly defined in older versions, this standard provides the framework for special purpose marking colours. Our green formulation meets durability and visibility requirements specified.
National Construction Code Requirements
Building Code of Australia (NCC 2022), the latest NCC includes provisions for EV charging infrastructure in new buildings and major renovations. Carparks above certain thresholds must include EV-ready spaces. Our marking services support compliance with these emerging requirements.
Road Marking Materials Performance
AS 4049.3:2005, defines performance requirements for pavement marking materials including colour retention and UV stability. Green paints are particularly susceptible to fading, making material quality critical. We use paints specifically formulated to maintain green colour integrity over time.
Accessible Parking for EV Charging
AS/NZS 2890.6:2009, where accessible EV charging bays are required, this standard specifies additional dimensional and marking requirements. Accessible EV bays need 3.2m minimum width plus shared areas, combined with both accessible parking and EV charging symbols.

Parking Facilities
Covers bay dimensions (2.4m × 5.4m standard, 3.2m × 5.4m accessible), aisle widths, and traffic flow requirements for compliant parking areas.
AS 4586
Slip Resistance
Defines slip resistance classifications (P rating) for pedestrian surfaces. Critical for wet areas, ramps, and high-traffic zones.
AS/NZS 1428
Access & Mobility
Sets requirements for accessible parking bays, tactile indicators, and mobility access. Essential for DDA compliance and accessibility audits.

Frequently Asked Questions
We use a specific bright green that aligns with emerging international standards for EV charging infrastructure. It's distinctly different from standard safety green or traffic green. This shade is becoming universally recognised for electric vehicle parking. Using a non-standard green reduces instant recognition and defeats the purpose of distinctive marking.
Standard parking bays are 2.4m minimum width. For EV charging bays, we typically recommend 2.6m to 2.8m. The extra width isn't about the vehicles being bigger, it's about the charging process. Drivers need to access charge ports which can be on either side of the vehicle, and charging cables need space without stretching across adjacent bays.
Absolutely. If you're adding charging stations to existing bays, we can overlay the EV-specific marking onto your current layout. We'd assess the condition of your existing white lines first. If they're badly faded, we might recommend refreshing them at the same time. But if your current marking is in good condition, we can add the EV elements without touching the rest.
Not all of them, but best practice is to include at least one accessible EV charging bay if you have multiple chargers. The DDA and Building Code require accessible parking provision, and as EV adoption increases, accessible drivers need charging access too. An accessible EV bay needs wider dimensions (3.2m minimum) and combined symbols.
Not with the right paint. Cheap greens fade badly because the pigments aren't UV stable. We use commercial-grade traffic paint with UV stabilizers specifically formulated for green applications. Expect 4 to 6 years of colour stability in typical outdoor conditions. For maximum longevity, thermoplastic green is available for high-UV locations.
Upload your site plan showing the charging station locations and we'll quote within 48 hours. Typical EV bay marking for 4 to 8 bays takes a single night shift to complete. We coordinate with your electrical contractor if the charger installation is happening simultaneously. For urgent projects, call James on 0468 069 002 to discuss timing.
