Brisbane Markets Rocklea Has Forklift Aisles Subject to Constant Produce Spillage — Low-Temperature Curing Epoxy Is the Only Viable Product
Brisbane Markets at Rocklea operates through the night in cool conditions — refrigerated produce arriving, sorting and distribution occurring in cool store environments, and forklift operations in areas where condensation from refrigerated containers creates wet floor conditions. Standard thermoplastic curing requires surface temperatures above 10°C — the cool store areas at Rocklea regularly run at 5-8°C floor temperature.
A Brisbane Markets cold storage facility asked us to mark their internal distribution floor. The floor temperature during normal operations was 6°C — below our thermoplastic minimum. Waterborne paint in the same environment would not cure adequately either.
The product for cold storage floor marking is a low-temperature cure two-pack epoxy — formulated to cross-link and cure at temperatures as low as 3°C. The cure time is longer (48-72 hours versus 24 hours at ambient) but the adhesion and durability are equivalent to standard epoxy once fully cured. We marked the Rocklea cold storage floor with low-temperature epoxy and worked around the operational schedule to allow adequate cure before forklift traffic resumed.
Rocklea is Brisbane's produce and heavy industrial hub — Brisbane Markets, Sherwood Road, and the logistics and cold storage businesses. TMR approved.

Low-temperature two-pack epoxy formulations are designed to cure at floor temperatures as low as 3°C. Standard two-pack epoxy requires above 10°C for reliable cross-linking. The low-temperature formulation uses a modified hardener system that remains reactive at near-freezing temperatures. Cure time at 5°C is typically 48-72 hours versus 18-24 hours at 20°C — we schedule marking to allow this extended cure before traffic resumes.
We work around the operational schedule to access sections of the floor between produce runs. For Brisbane Markets, the window is typically mid-morning after the overnight distribution rush and before the afternoon receiving period. For sections that need 48-72 hour cure, we coordinate with the operations manager to keep traffic off the marked sections for the required period — cone barriers and signage.
Yes. Produce juices, particularly citrus and vegetable acids, can degrade marking film over time in active produce areas. For high-spillage zones, we recommend a chemical-resistant epoxy topcoat over the standard marking colour — providing additional resistance to organic acid attack. The topcoat is clear or tinted to match the marking colour. It adds approximately 15-20% to the marking cost in the treated zones but significantly extends durability.
TMR Queensland approved since 2009. We meet contractor qualification, insurance, and technical standards for state and council road networks. We carry $20M public liability and $10M professional indemnity — certificates available on request. All road marking in Rocklea is completed to AS 1742.3 with retroreflective thermoplastic to AS/NZS 1906.3. You receive as-built photos, a compliance statement, and material certification on every job. We also cover Moorooka, Archerfield, Acacia Ridge on the same schedule.
