Which Choosing the Right Paint for Your Application?

Not all line marking paint is the same. Walk into a hardware store and you'll find one or two options. We work with dozens of products, each suited to specific conditions.

Waterborne (water-based) paints are the modern standard for most applications. Fast drying, low odour, environmentally friendly, and excellent adhesion to properly prepared surfaces. Most carparks, warehouses, and indoor facilities get waterborne paint.

Solvent-based paints still have their place. Better penetration on rough surfaces, excellent adhesion in marginal conditions, and superior durability in some applications. Roads and high-traffic outdoor areas often benefit from solvent-based products.

We made an expensive mistake early on when we used indoor waterborne paint on an exposed outdoor basketball court. Six months later, UV had degraded the pigment and traffic had worn through in high-use areas. We repainted with UV-stabilized exterior product at our cost, around $3,200.

Now we always match the product to the conditions. Indoor/outdoor, traffic levels, surface type, expected life, all factor into our recommendation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Waterborne uses water as carrier, dries faster, low odour, easier cleanup. Solvent-based uses chemical solvents, often more durable, better adhesion on difficult surfaces, stronger odour.

Most carparks use waterborne paint. Fast drying means minimal closure time, low odour suits occupied buildings, and durability is excellent with proper preparation.

Depends on traffic and conditions. Indoor carparks typically 3-5 years. Outdoor 2-3 years. Heavy traffic warehouses 12-24 months. We recommend appropriate products based on expected wear.

Yes, we can match existing colours or supply to specific colour codes. AS 1318 specifies safety colours that we stock as standard.

Modern waterborne paints are highly durable. In many applications they match or exceed solvent-based products. The key is selecting the right product for your conditions.

Waterborne paints have much lower VOC emissions than solvent-based. Important for indoor applications and environmentally sensitive projects.
