Pickleball Court Line Marking
Line Marking Australia marks pickleball courts on new slabs and over existing tennis, netball and multi-use courts. A standard pickleball court is 13.41 m long and 6.10 m wide, with 50 mm lines and a non-volley zone (the kitchen) 2.13 m from the net on each side. We use a contrasting colour so players can pick out their lines.
Pickleball is popping up at clubs, schools and community centres everywhere. The catch is court space. Most venues can't build new courts, so the courts they have need to work harder.
That's where we come in. We set out and paint pickleball lines that sit neatly with your existing lines, so tennis and pickleball can share one surface.
Pickleball court size and line layout
Every line is part of the court, so the numbers matter. These are the key measurements we mark to:
- Playing area: 13.41 m long by 6.10 m wide (44 ft by 20 ft), measured to the outside edges of the lines.
- Line width: 50 mm for every line.
- Non-volley zone (kitchen): 2.13 m (7 ft) back from the net on both sides.
- Service courts: a centre line splits the area between the kitchen line and the baseline into left and right service courts.
- Net height: 914 mm at the sidelines and 864 mm at the centre.
We also plan for run-off space. Players chase balls wide and deep, so room behind the baselines and beside the sidelines makes the court safer. We check what your fence line allows before we mark a thing.
Marking pickleball lines on a tennis court
This is the pickleball job we're asked for most. Your tennis lines stay put. We add pickleball lines in a different colour so players can tell the two games apart at a glance.
Light blue, yellow or white lines are popular on green or blue courts where the tennis lines are white. We'll suggest a colour that stands out on your surface without fighting the tennis lines.
How many pickleball courts fit on a tennis court
- Two courts is the usual answer when you keep the tennis lines. One pickleball court sits in each half of the tennis court, and players use portable pickleball nets.
- Up to four courts can fit inside a full tennis enclosure that's set up for pickleball only, with the tennis net removed and enough run-off around each court.
The right number depends on your fence size, the run-off you want and how much tennis is still played. We'll lay out the options so your committee can choose.
How a pickleball marking job works
- Tell us about the court. Send photos, the surface type and rough sizes. A site visit helps on bigger jobs.
- We plan the layout. We work out where each court sits, the run-off and the line colour.
- Clean and set out. We clean the line areas, set out every line and check the diagonals so each court is square.
- Mask and paint. Lines are masked for crisp edges and painted with a coating that suits the surface.
- Cure and hand over. Paint needs time to cure before play. We tell you when the court is ready.
Line paint that suits sports surfaces
Sports courts need paint made for sports surfaces. Acrylic court surfaces usually take an acrylic line paint. Bare concrete and asphalt may need a different product. We match the paint to the surface so lines grip, stay non-slip and don't peel.
If the court surface itself is worn or cracked, we'll tell you. New lines on a failing surface won't last, and we'd rather say so up front.

Building a new pickleball court?
Line Marking Australia also builds new pickleball courts from the ground up: site checks, base and slab, surface, line marking, posts, nets, fencing and lighting, with council and safety compliance on every job. See pickleball court construction for sizes, surfaces, costs and approvals. Home courts start from about $20,000 installed, and we also handle tennis-to-pickleball conversions.
Standards and council rules we follow for pickleball courts
- The official pickleball rulebook used in Australia: a 13.41 m by 6.10 m court, with 50 mm lines that count as part of the court.
- A non-volley zone (the kitchen) 2.13 m from the net on each side, and a centreline splitting each side into two service courts.
- On tennis courts, pickleball lines go in a contrasting colour so tennis players can ignore them, usually two pickleball courts per tennis court with portable nets.
- Written approval from the club or council before adding lines to a shared tennis court.
Council and site rules on every court and field job
- Approval first. On council reserves, school grounds and club facilities we work only with the owner's written approval, plus a works permit where the council asks for one, and we follow the council's open space and reserve conditions.
- Safety paperwork. A Safe Work Method Statement and site induction under the Model WHS Regulations, with the work area coned or fenced off until the paint has cured.
- Insurance. Certificates of currency for public liability and workers compensation, at the level the council, school or club specifies.
- Working with children. On school and childcare sites our crews hold the state check, such as a Working with Children Check or Queensland blue card.
- Stormwater. No paint, wash water or grit goes into drains, in line with state EPA rules. We contain wash water and take waste away.
- Right paint for the surface. Court paint the surface maker approves, so your surface warranty stays intact, and grass-safe line paint on turf.
- Hours and bookings. Work is timed around council noise local laws and the club, school or council booking calendar.

Pickleball Court Dimensions
The widely used court standard from the USA Pickleball rulebook: 44 ft by 20 ft (13.41 m by 6.10 m), 2 in (50 mm) lines and a 7 ft (2.13 m) non-volley zone each side of the net.
Net Height
The net stands 36 in (914 mm) at the sidelines and 34 in (864 mm) at the centre. Portable nets are common on shared tennis courts.
Sports Surface Line Paint
Lines are painted with a coating that suits the court surface, such as acrylic line paint on acrylic sports surfaces, so they bond well and stay non-slip.

Yes. Most of our pickleball jobs are on existing tennis courts. We keep the tennis lines and add pickleball lines in a contrasting colour, so players can tell the two games apart.
Two pickleball courts is common when the tennis lines stay, one in each half with portable nets. Up to four can fit in a full tennis enclosure set up for pickleball only, if there is enough run-off. It depends on your fence size.
Pick a colour that contrasts with both the court surface and the tennis lines. Light blue, yellow and white are common. On shared courts we usually keep the tennis lines white and use another colour for pickleball.
It depends on the paint, the temperature and the humidity. Line paint is often touch-dry quickly but needs longer to cure before play. We give you a clear time for your court on the day.
Yes, on sports floors that can take line paint. On sealed timber floors the lines usually go on under the final coat of sealer, so we work with your floor contractor on timing.
Price depends on how many courts you need, the surface and its condition, the number of line colours and site access. Send photos and rough sizes through our quote form and we will come back with a price.
