Noble Park's Manufacturing Floors Have Steel Grinding Swarf in the Concrete Surface — Creates a Slipping Hazard and Adhesion Problem
Noble Park has a number of metal fabrication and grinding facilities where steel swarf — fine metal particles produced during grinding and cutting — has accumulated on and in the concrete floor surface over years of operations. Steel swarf in concrete creates two problems: a slip hazard from the loose metallic particles underfoot, and an adhesion problem because swarf embedded in the surface prevents primer from bonding to concrete.
A Browns Road metal fabrication facility had swarf embedded in the floor throughout the machining area. Standard acid etch cleaning removed loose surface swarf but left embedded particles in the pore structure. Pull-off: 1.1 MPa in the machining zones.
Industrial magnet sweeping followed by vacuum extraction cleared the loosened swarf. A second acid etch pass completed the surface preparation. Pull-off after this protocol: 1.6 MPa. The magnet sweeping step is specific to metalworking contamination — not something we do routinely, but essential in facilities with significant steel swarf accumulation.
Noble Park is Greater Dandenong's Princes Highway and Browns Road manufacturing and retail hub. VicRoads approved.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Noble Park Browns Road metal fabrication and Princes Highway retail carparks are part of our Greater Dandenong schedule. Steel swarf magnetic extraction before marking on metalworking facility floors — embedded swarf prevents primer adhesion and creates a slip hazard. We've completed 5,000+ projects nationally since 2009 and carry $20M public liability. Fixed pricing, VicRoads approved. We've completed 5,000+ projects nationally since 2009 and carry $20M public liability. Every Noble Park quote includes a site assessment, surface condition report, and fixed pricing. For WorkSafe Victoria improvement notices we can assess within 24 hours and deploy within 48-72 hours. Completion includes photo documentation, compliance statement, and material specs. VicRoads approved for all road and carpark marking requiring authority sign-off.
Steel swarf particles embedded in the concrete surface pore structure physically prevent the primer from contacting the concrete mineral surface below. The primer bonds to the swarf particle rather than the concrete — and swarf particles have little adhesion to the concrete themselves, so the primer-swarf bond fails under load. Pull-off values reflect the weak primer-swarf interface rather than the primer-concrete interface that would normally be tested.
Hand-held industrial magnets or sweeper magnets remove surface and near-surface swarf — particles sitting on or within the top 1-2mm of concrete. Deeply embedded particles (2-5mm) are loosened by the acid etch process and become accessible to magnet sweeping after etching. The sequential protocol (acid etch, magnet sweep, second acid etch) addresses both surface and loosened subsurface swarf. Line Marking Australia has been completing marking across Noble Park and surrounds since 2009, with 5,000+ projects nationally. We carry $20M public liability and $10M professional indemnity, VicRoads approved. Every job includes fixed pricing, photo documentation, compliance certification, and material specs. Yes. Steel particles in concrete are subject to corrosion in the presence of moisture — the same electrochemical process that causes reinforcement steel to corrode in carbonated concrete. Corroding steel swarf expands slightly and can cause minor surface spalling over time. This is a long-term maintenance concern beyond the immediate marking scope. We note significant swarf accumulation in our assessment for the facility manager's maintenance records.
VicRoads approved since 2009. We meet contractor qualification, insurance, and technical standards for state and council road networks. We carry $20M public liability and $10M professional indemnity — certificates available on request. All road marking in Noble Park is completed to AS 1742.3 with retroreflective thermoplastic to AS/NZS 1906.3.
