Murarrie's Lytton Road Industrial Floors Have Printing Ink and UV Coating Contamination From the Packaging Industry Cluster
Murarrie has a significant packaging and printing industry presence along Lytton Road — folding box plants, label printers, and packaging material manufacturers. These facilities use UV-cured coatings and solvent-based printing inks in their production processes. Spills of UV-cured coatings on concrete floors create a particularly resistant contamination — UV-cured polymers are highly cross-linked and resistant to most solvents.
A Murarrie packaging facility had UV-cured coating spills on their production floor concrete — visible as shiny, hard, plasticky patches on the concrete surface. Pull-off after standard acid etch and primer on the UV coating patches: 0.7 MPa. The UV-cured film was acting as a release surface.
UV-cured coatings must be mechanically removed — they cannot be chemically dissolved. We ground the UV coating patches to concrete, etched the ground surface, primed, and marked. The affected zones were localised to the production floor area directly under the coating application equipment. The rest of the floor required only standard preparation.
Murarrie is Brisbane's eastern Lytton Road packaging and industrial hub — the Gateway Motorway fringe and logistics businesses. TMR approved.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Murarrie Lytton Road packaging, printing, and logistics industrial facilities are part of our eastern Brisbane schedule. UV-cured coating identification and mechanical removal before marking — UV-cured polymer spills cannot be chemically removed and must be ground off before primer can bond to concrete. We've completed 5,000+ projects nationally since 2009 and carry $20M public liability. Fixed pricing, TMR approved.
UV-cured coatings have a distinctive hard, glassy, slightly flexible surface feel — different from the dry, brittle feel of aged paint. They resist acetone (solvent rub test shows no colour pickup or softening), while most solvent-based paints show some acetone response. They also have a characteristic clarity or semi-transparency rather than the opaque appearance of most paint systems. Pull-off testing is the definitive confirmation — UV-cured coatings produce very low values (0.5-1.0 MPa) that standard preparation cannot improve.
No reliable chemical method exists to dissolve cross-linked UV-cured polymers — the same chemical resistance that makes them useful as protective coatings prevents chemical removal. Mechanical grinding is the only viable approach. For small patches (under 0.5 square metres each), hand grinding or angle grinder with diamond cup wheel is practical. For larger zones, a floor grinding machine is more efficient.
Yes. Solvent-based printing inks are petroleum-based and respond to alkaline degreasing — same protocol as standard oil contamination. UV-cured coatings don't respond to degreasing at all. In a Murarrie packaging facility with both contamination types, we assess and map each type separately, then apply the appropriate treatment to each zone. Treating solvent ink zones with grinding (UV treatment) wastes time; treating UV zones with degreasing (solvent ink treatment) fails to achieve adhesion.
TMR Queensland approved since 2009. We meet contractor qualification, insurance, and technical standards for state and council road networks. We carry $20M public liability and $10M professional indemnity — certificates available on request. All road marking in Murarrie is completed to AS 1742.3 with retroreflective thermoplastic to AS/NZS 1906.3. You receive as-built photos, a compliance statement, and material certification on every job. We also cover Hemmant, Wynnum West, Lytton on the same schedule.
