Why Territory Aviation Facilities Need Marking That Meets CASA Standards in Extreme Conditions?
A regional airstrip in remote NT called us about their apron and taxilane marking. The existing marking had faded below CASA minimums after just one wet season, and they'd received a notice during their last inspection. Remote Territory airstrips face some of Australia's harshest conditions, and standard marking materials don't last. We assessed the facility against CASA Part 139 MOS requirements and applied tropical-rated aviation marking. Aircraft parking positions, taxilane marking, and threshold markings all brought up to standard. The facility passed their audit and the marking has survived two wet seasons. We made a colour specification error at an NT airfield in 2018. We used standard yellow instead of aviation yellow specified in CASA MOS. The difference is subtle but auditors notice. We remarked with correct aviation colours at our cost, around $2,300.
