Malaga's Beach Road Logistics Warehouses Have Floors With Pump-Placed Concrete That Can Surface-Settle Differently to Hand-Finished Pours
Malaga's large logistics warehouses use pump-placed concrete — concrete delivered by pump rather than by chute directly from the truck. Pump-placed concrete has slightly higher water content to maintain pumpability, and the higher water-cement ratio affects surface density. In some pours, the increased water produces a weaker surface layer that can carbonate faster or produce more bleed water during placement.
A Beach Road logistics facility had two floor sections: the original section from the late 1990s (chute-placed concrete) and a 2010 extension (pump-placed). Pull-off after standard acid etch on the original section: 1.7 MPa. Same protocol on the extension: 1.2 MPa. The pump-placed extension's higher water-cement ratio had produced a surface with lower adhesion after acid etch alone.
A light grind on the extension section — CSP-1 rather than the full CSP-2 — exposed denser concrete below and brought pull-off to 1.6 MPa. The original section needed only acid etch. Different sections, different prep. As-built documented both approaches.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Malaga Beach Road and Marshall Road logistics and industrial facilities are part of our northern Perth schedule. Pour method and surface condition assessed before preparation specified — pump-placed concrete extensions in Malaga warehouses can have lower surface density requiring light grinding that chute-placed original sections don't need. We've completed 5,000+ projects nationally since 2009 and carry $20M public liability. Fixed pricing, MRWA approved.
Pump-placed concrete with higher water-cement ratio has lower overall surface strength and higher porosity than lower water-cement concrete. For marking, this means marginally lower pull-off values after standard preparation — but with the light grinding correction we apply, the resulting adhesion is equivalent to well-prepared standard concrete. Long-term marking durability on properly prepared pump-placed concrete is the same as on properly prepared standard concrete.
Not reliably from visual inspection alone. The construction records for the facility will document the placement method for each pour. Sometimes pump-placed sections can be identified by pour boundaries and finishing patterns, but this is unreliable. Pull-off testing after standard preparation is the definitive diagnostic — lower values in certain sections without other contamination explanation indicate pump-placed concrete. CSP-1 grinding removes approximately 0.5-1mm from the surface — a height differential that is imperceptible to forklift traffic and below the AS 4024 series trip hazard threshold for pedestrian access. The boundary between ground and unground sections is not a functional concern. We document the boundary location in the as-built record for the facility's maintenance file.
